Load the eMule Options, select the Server tab, and make sure only the two options in the screenshot below are enabled.Note: Due to the increase in fake ed2k servers that either don't answer search requests at all or answer with bogus results, it is recommended to deactivate the options 'Update server list when connecting to server' and 'Update server list when client connects'. The risk is too high to get your server list infected with such bogus servers.Note: You need to do these instructions only once, but it’s safe to re-apply them at anytime, so if you haven't done it yet then do so now (even if it's not first-usage).What else do I need to know? You will always need to connect to only one eD2k server first at a time. Click on the Servers button in the top toolbar; the server list will come to view. EDonkeyServer No2 usually has the highest number of users (not max users), and is considered one of the best eD2k servers.

A server provides only an index for the files that the connected users are sharing, thus searching for sources is done over the servers. The server list need only be downloaded once.Note: When connecting your client to a server, the server checks to see if other clients can freely connect to your client. If yes, the server assigns your client a so-called high ID.
If communication is blocked, the server assigns your client a low ID. If you have a LowID, please refer to the second part in this guide 'Understanding and fixing LowID problems' to resolve it.How does my client find new sources?a. Almost immediately after you queue a file, all the sources that are on the same server you are connected to will be transferred to your client, even LowID sources.b.
More sources are detected using UDP search; searches other servers (not closed/private servers though) for more sources.c. More sources are detected using source exchange (SX); clients that are connected to other clients on different servers.Which server should I connect to?eMule’s UDP search will find all the active sources sooner or later, a little slow but effective. UDP is a connectionless protocol so it does not even need to connect to the servers. In short it doesn't make a big or small difference to which server you get connected.
UDP search feature will bring sources from other servers after some time without needing to be connected to all of them. Connecting to one of the more popular eD2k servers (see below for details) makes it just slightly faster to find sources.list anchor=22. Configuring your upload and connection limits/anchor/list/colorYou should allow your eD2k client a limited upload of 75% to 80% of your max upload so that it does not slow your downloads. You should also consider setting your Max connections to something like 200, as if you keep it to 500 for example it might make your browsing or any other internet activity extremely slow, or your router might not even be capable of handing the 500 connections in the first place. If you are on a 56k connection, you should put the Max Connections value to something like 60.The settings for a 512kbps download and 128kbps upload connection with a basic/intermediate router:-Options ConnectionDownload Capacity: 64KB/sUpload Capacity: 16kB/sMax sources/file: 500Max. Using an IP-Filter to minimize corrupt chunks and improve security/anchor/list/colorWhat is an IPFilter and a corrupt chunk? What we basically do here is an attempt to protect eMule from receiving corrupt or fake chunks from other suspicious and harmful clients. An IP-Filter is simply a list of IP ranges created (and regularly updated) by various security experts that we trust in the eD2k community. This IPFilter restricts any connection to or from your client to other clients on these ranges via eMule. It is possible to use these IPFilters on a global scale using security apps such as ProtoWall, meaning that restriction is not only via eMule, but via all internet connections on your operating system.
Our prime concern however is to focus on eMule protection by integrating that IPFilter into eMule, which is fortunately a very easy task. How do I configure an IPFilter? In the eMule options, click the Security tab. There you simply need to copy/paste one of the two IPFilters links (see below) in the Update from this URL: field, then press Reload/Update or just Apply if it's the first time. The filter level should remain at its default value 127. Make sure that Filter Servers too is enabled.
You should consider updating your IPfilter (pressing 'Reload/Update') every 2 or 3 weeks.Note: Enable Protocol Obfuscation as shown in the screenshot – eMule communication becomes hard to distinguish from random data, thus it bcomes harder to detect the eMule protocol. This helps a lot against ISPs that try to throttle or block your internet connection. The paranoid 'pip' ipfilter should be the most important for those who are very concerned about security (not a guarantee but it helps a lot against getting busted and such).

The Blocklist Pro links in that guide are already broken. It would be best just linking to the actual if you don't mind.At this point I can say that the NIP & PIP filters will only be availble from Blocklist Pro and the direct download links won't be working again for the near future. I know it's a hassle to manually download this stuff but until we get some new servers thats about all we can do for now.You can of course make your own IP filter dat files using the Blocklist Manager at anytime with the same sources that you can find here -, if you can't wait for the Blocklist Pro updates. I try to update the filters there every 1-2 weeks.
